Before we 'put our face on' we must know how to care our skin and keep it healthy. To have a flawless painting, one must have a great canvas to begin with! No matter how expensive your makeup products are, if your skin isn't well prepped, it can lead to an uneven finish.

- Facial Cleanser:

Firstly, you should find a cleanser right for your skin. There are different skin types (oily, dry and combination). The cleanser should be alcohol-free and should also contain simple or natural ingredients that won't irritate or damage your skin.

Wash the skin on your face and neck gently but thoroughly, using small circular motions starting at your neck, rotate toward your nose or counterclockwise. Rinse your face and neck completely ensuring there is no soapy residue remaining.

- Exfoliating:

When purchasing a exfoliating scrub, it should be gentle, contain small granular particles(sand or sugar). The ingredients should be natural or as close to natural as possible. This removes dead skin cells and prepares skin for a smooth application. Rinse your face and neck and pat dry with a clean towel. DO NOT rub your face because it will damage your skin.

- Applying a Serum:

Select a serum with lots of Vitamin C as well as sodium hyaluronate (Sodium hyaluronate is used as an anti-aging treatment, dermatologists inject it into the dermis of the skin to restore facial fullness in areas where volume is lost). This serum will add moisture to your skin all day long. The serum should be applied to your dry face right after exfoliation. Use small dots and dab it on to your face with the tip of your index or ring finger.

- Moisturizing The Skin:

Like your facial cleanser, your moisturizer should match your skin type and also contain a minimum of SPF 15 to help block harmful sun rays. Press the moisturizer into your skin rather than rubbing it.

- A Primer:

Lastly, a primer. This is the key ingredient to prepping the skin before makeup as it fills lines and wrinkles and smooths the face. Use very small dots of primer and gently press it into your skin.
